Researchers at AIIMS says that stem cell therapy offers no additional benefit over conventional treatment for stroke. They have cautioned patients suffering from the debilitating disease against seeking such treatment until there is evidence supporting claims of faster or better recovery through it. They have conducted a study over a period of six years-from 2008 to 2014-to assess the benefit of stem cell treatment in stroke patients. It was that there was no harm with injecting the stem cells but there was no significant benefit for patients who were given the novel therapy compared to those getting conventional treatment such as anti-platelets, anti-coagulants and statins.
